Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, on Saturday said that the state government would engage in massive dry season farming to tackle food shortage in the state.
He said the state government would distribute assorted fertilisers and other farm implements for dry season farming so as to encourage them to engage in irrigation farming.
Tambuwal, who made this known when he received some members farmers' groups in Sokoto, said this would mitigate the effect of 2015 flood which destroyed farmlands in parts of the state.
According to him, the state government will in this direction purchase assorted fertlisers and sell same to farmers at subsidised prices.

``We will also buy other agricultural inputs and implements that will be distributed to our farmers.
``The state government will also sustain its gesture of buying improved seeds and seedlings, pesticides and herbicides, among others.’’
The Governor further explained that his administration would sink tube-wells for the farmers, construct more earth dam and water reservoir to conserve water for the farmers.
``This proactive action is aimed at supplementing for these huge losses to avert food shortages this year and beyond,’’ he added.
