Birnin Kebbi – The CBN on Saturday said that it would provide assistance to farmers in Kebbi affected by the recent flooding in the state, to enable them engage in dry season farming.
A staff of the bank, Mr Paul Eluhaiwe, who led a delegation of the apex bank to Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi to commiserate with flood victims, said the bank would work closely with the government to assist farmers.
“The affected farmers will be provided with high-yielding seeds, fertiliser and agro-chemicals for them to recover from the effect of flood to make up in the dry season farming.’’
He advised farmers to take advantage of the agricultural insurance scheme to lessen the burden of unfavourable conditions that might occur.
Eluhaiwe also commiserated with the people of the state over the loss of crops, lives and houses caused by the flooding.
Bagudu commended the delegation for the visit, assuring his administration’s commitment to promoting commercial agriculture for rapid economic development.
NAN recalls that 45,000 farmers had recently lost crops worth about three billion naira to flooding in the state.
