A 42-year-old man, Babatunde Akeem, has killed himself after plunging into a well on Daodu Street, Igbogbo, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
IT was learnt that the victim had made several attempts to end his life, but was always rescued by relatives and neighbours.
However, he finally got his death wish on Wednesday after he plunged into the 120 feet deep well.
Our correspondent learnt that officials of the Lagos State Fire Service arrived at the scene around 11am.
A firefighter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The Ikorodu Fire Station was there after we received the distress call around 11am. But as soon as we got there, we learnt that he had been recovered dead and his remains taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital.
“We gathered that he had made attempts to kill himself in the past.
“He jumped into the well this morning and he was brought out dead.”
The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said the agency would soon call a meeting of stakeholders in Lagos to address the growing rate of drowning in wells in the state, with the aim of finding a lasting solution.
