ZINEDINE ZIDANE REPLACES BENITEZ AS REAL MADRIDS COACH

Real Madrid appointed Zinedine Zidane as its new manager Monday, banking on a legendary player to bring his on-field success into his first major coaching job.
Zidane was unveiled as Real’s ninth manager in the past 10 years just hours after the club decided it’d had enough of the eighth, Rafa Benitez, following a meeting of the club’s board.
Benitez was tabbed to coach Real just seven months ago, but fans were critical of the move from the moment he was hired to replace Carlo Ancelotti last summer.
Benitez’s methodical, defensive-oriented philosophy didn’t sit well with a fanbase that demands fireworks at all times. Even as Real has scored more goals than any other club in Spain’s La Liga this season — 47 in 18 games—Benitez never shook that criticism.
The club's president, Florentino Pérez, revealed the appointment at a press conference held at the Santiago Bernabéu otoday following the conclusion of the meeting of the club's Board of Directors:
"Good evening, first of all thank you to everyone for being here at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. I appear before you to announce the agreements just reached by the Board of Directors of Real Madrid. Today we have made the difficult decision, particularly for me, to terminate the contract of Rafa Benítez as first-team coach.
I wish to underline that he is a great professional and a magnificent person, and I would like to take this opportunity to place on record my gratitude to him for his hard work and dedication during his months as coach of Real Madrid".
I would also like to announce that the Real Madrid Board of Directors have decided to name Zinedine Zidane as the new coach of the first team. There can be no doubt that Zidane is one of the game's all-time great figures. He knows better than anyone just what it means to lead the Real Madrid first-team squad. He's fully aware of how tough and at the same time how exciting this demanding position is. Furthermore, Zidane knows the players, as many of them lifted the club's tenth European Cup in Lisbon with him as assistant coach".

it added.

Margarita Louis-Dreyfus fortune is estimated to be around $7.1B according to forbes as at 2015 and she owns the famous Olympique de Marseille football team her husband bought in 1997.

KWARA STATE TEACHERS TO GO ON STRIKE OVER NON PAYMENT OF SALARIES

Teachers in public primary and Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in Kwara state yesterday carried out their threat to go on strike despite pleas from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The teachers, who had threatened to commence indefinite strike action yesterday over unpaid three months salaries, deserted classes in public schools in the state.
When Vanguard visited some junior secondary schools along Offa road, Zango road and Saw mail areas in Ilorin yesterday, pupils who resumed from Christmas/New Year holiday were seen playing around the compound without any teacher to attend to them.
However, teaching and learning activities were going on in Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) because it was gathered that the state government did not owe SSS teachers.
Speaking with journalists, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Alhaji Abubakar Musa, said the strike became imperative following non payment of October, November and December 2015 salary of the affected teachers.
Alhaji Musa noted that teachers need to be motivated to carry out their duties as motivation is one of the indices of teaching which the teachers presently lack , “there is no way the hungry teachers could deliver effectively, it is better for teachers to stay at home until the Government is capable of paying them.” he said.
Meanwhile, the Kwara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has appealed to the striking teachers to suspend the strike.

TENSION IN DELSU OVER WITHDRAWER OF ACCREDITATION

Tension has gripped students of Delta State University, Oleh campus, following the withdrawal of the accreditation of the institution’s Faculty of Law by the Nigeria University Commission, NUC.
The Faculty of Engineering, the other faculty in the campus, it will be recalled, lost its accreditation about four years ago, eliciting fears in the Oleh community that the campus may be scrapped.
Reacting to the development, the President, Law Students Association of Nigeria, LAWSAN, Oleh campus, Mr. Desmond Orisewezie, appealed to the state government “to do its best to partner the university authority to ensure the prompt accreditation of the two faculties in the campus.
“Engineering has lost its accreditation, and now Law Faculty. If the issue is left like that, it means that the campus will be closed which will not be fair, because psychologically, it is going to have effect on the students.”
On his part, Mr. Oghenemine Djebah, a 400 level student of the Faculty of Law, appealed to the state governor to look into the various areas of need identified by NUC to enable the two faculties to regain full accreditation.
Djebah said that the conditions given by the accreditation team of NUC which he said include the provision of computers for the faculty’s e-library, upgrading of books, provision of air conditioners for the library, the completion and furnishing of the lecture and the moot court, could be achieved with proper commitment from the government and the cooperation of the school authority

LAGOS STATE GOVERMENT TO START SEALING OFF HOUSES WITHOUT STANDERD TOILETS

The Lagos State Government said on Monday in Lagos that it had begun to seal off houses without standard toilets.
Mr. Oluwatoyin Awosika, the Director of Public Enlightenment in the state’s Ministry of Information and Strategy, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the closure of the houses was to check “unwholesome practices” such as open defecation.
According to him, the government is also embarking on public enlightenment to educate residents on the dangers of open defecation.
“We would continue to educate people on the need to stop open defaecation.“Again, you don’t blame some of these people for doing these things, so many houses don’t have toilets.

PHOTOS: CATHOLIC PRIEST SUSPENDED FOR RIDING A HOVERBOARD SCOOTER DURING MASS.

A Catholic priest who rode a "hoverboard" scooter during Christmas Eve Mass in the Philippines has fallen afoul of his diocese, which suspended Father Albert San Jose for attempting "to get the attention of the people" in a personal manner. The priest has apologized for the incident, which was recorded.
San Jose became something of a viral hit after video was posted online of him riding a self-balancing flat scooter through the aisles, singing "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You" to the congregation, which applauded his performance at the church in Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Parish in Biñan, south of Manila.
But the Diocese of San Pablo did not approve of the priest's use of a scooter, saying, "That was wrong."
The diocese's statement focused on the requirements of celebrating Mass — not the potential safety hazards posed by hoverboar

d scooters that recently led major U.S. airlines to ban the devices.
"The Eucharist demands utmost respect and reverence," the diocese wrote in a statement this week. "It is the Memorial of the Lord's Sacrifice. It is the source and summit of Christian life. It is the Church's highest form of worship. Consequently, it is not a personal celebration where one can capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people."

POLICE NAB 2 ROBBERS IN LAGOS STATE

A gang of armed robbers that specialize in using motorcycle to rob within Lekki-Ajah Expressway in Lagos were arrested over the weekend by operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the Lagos State Police Command.
The Police authority revealed that the suspects, Odunayo Mustapha, 22, and Adedayo Akinjola, 22, were nabbed while trying to escape with their motorcycle, after they had successfully snatched a mobile phone from an unsuspecting member of the public.
The suspects confessed that they were a three – man gang who usually rob in a traffic gridlock along Lekki-Ajah corridor.
The leader of the gang, Odunayo Mustapha, who hails from Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State said: “I was lured into the crime due to financial predicament. Lack of formal education was one of the reasons I went into robbery.”
While noting  that his victim’s phone attracted his attention when he peeped into her car,  Mustapha added  that “three of us left home in search of our would-be victims. On getting to Ajah opposite a shopping mall, where traffic is usually hectic, we sighted a woman in a car holding a  phone; I alighted from the motorcycle while the other members were standing by on the motorcycle. Immediately I forcefully collected the phone from her, we mounted the motorcycle and zoomed off.
“While on the run, we sighted the RRS men chasing us with brand new power-bike,   later, they overtook  us but one of us disembarked and took to his heels with the stolen phone, while we were arrested.“I am an illiterate because my parents could not provide the wherewithal for me to have a formal education. This was what brought me to Lagos some years ago. While in the state, I started work as cart pusher around Jakande area in Ajah. Little proceeds from this business couldn’t sustain me.“Our first operation was carried out by the three of us in Ajah, Lagos. We collected one smart phone from our victim. It was sold to one Mallam Hassan by Adedayo, I was given  N2,500. The second operation was not successful and the third one was this one that led to our arrest.”
The second suspect, Adedayo, said, “before now, I was learning aluminium work but I could not complete it due to financial constraint. We just started the act of robbery in the area. And this was our third operations.   The motorcycle we use belonged to the third suspect who is now at large.”
Lagos State Police command’s image maker,  Joe Offor, confirmed the arrest of the suspects and added that   efforts were in top gear to arrest the third suspect.

JAY Z SAYS HE WILL LOVE TO SIGN HARRY STYLES

Roc Nation boss Jay Z has reportedly promised Harry Styles that he will make him “the biggest artist in the world”.
The hiphop icon has vowed to give Harry the support he needs to begin a solo career away from his band One Direction. Harry has been working hard on his solo songs. Among the songs are: 5378 Miles, Already Home, Coco and Endlessly. This sparked speculation that he was going solo after spending 5 years with the band headed by Simon Cowell.
Jay Z has reportedly told Daily Star Sunday that: “Harry doesn't need any help with exposure, everybody in the world knows who he is, but he does not need to make the transition from being part of a group to becoming an individual artist”.
The music mogul also told the newspaper he plans to work with Harry's present boss Simon as part of a partnership deal.
I would love to sign Harry. Simon is going to carry on working with him, of course. But we could do a joint venture - we both have big qualities we can bring to the table,” he said.
Meanwhile, Harry may be sceptical about the truth of Jay Z’s promise after his pal, Rita Nora filed a law suit against Roc Nation recently.
Ora, who was signed to Roc Nation in 2008, has not released an album in the last 3 years, and is presenting herself as been “orphaned” by the label in the court - she claims she funded large part of her promotions.
Jay Z who nurtured superstars like Kanye WestRihanna andShakira is yet to comment about the allegations.

OLAMIDE ENDS BEEF WITH DON JAZZY

Barely two days after Olamide took on Don Jazzy on a personal beef, the two heavyweights have squashed the beef.
According to the YBNL boss, the two showbiz personalities are not only sorry but reconsidered their leadership traits as bosses of record labels and youths.
The two top telco ambassadors - Olamide represents Etisalat, while Don Jazzy represents MTN - have since ended the enemity and embraced peace.
Inside sources alleged that a Lagos State commissioner, who is a big fan of both artiste had prevailed on both parties to let the misunderstanding passby.
It was further disclosed that the commissioner is known to have been the brain behind the One Lagos concert, which had both artistes on the bill.
Olamide had made this known when he shared a picture of himself and Don jazzy at a car park with the caption, "We are very Sorry for the wahala make una no vex oh. It is our responsibility to lead but then again we are only human and we all make mistakes! #WeAreSorryHeadies #WeAreSorryFans #PeaceAndUnity #SMD #YBNL #OneLagos #OneNigeria”
The beef had started when Olamide had let out a curse-filled rant on stage over Lil Kesh losing the Next Rated award to Reekado Banks, and Don Jazzy had aggravated it when he responded on stage by asking Olamide to come collect the award.
